For #2000, of course, this needs to be an epic one. Highly anticipated after trying to dine here more than a year ago, I joined some local friends and my travel friend for an early Tuesday dinner. Our friends who drove us here were skeptical knowing Waikiki's parking situation. They were pleasantly surprised that complimentary valet parking (do remember to tip them, please). Entering and after checking in, we were led to the upper dining room on the ground level. After being seated, we were given menus. There was garlic bread (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=MjrIe1Dq4hIhqiBmVzX-qQ) that was provided on the table. After studying and discussing the menu, we had an idea of what we wanted to try. As our waiter introduced himself and his assistant to us, he also told us the specials. As we asked questions and shared our thoughts, he offered a suggestion to satisfy what we wanted to eat. I started with a Lilikoi cooler (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=EOJ1umNdDvP1w1K6cPTQNQ) as suggested also by him. I enjoyed this but didn't want to sip it too quickly. Refreshing and sweet, I'd get this again. For the food portion,, we decided to dine family style aside from the soup which one diner agreed to share with me. Here is what I tried, all shared: 1. French onion soup, half order (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=0&select=zAV_jJEBYXk6h0fk1DGSbw) - Caramelized onion, Gruyere, Mozzarella, Parmesan. Just as I hoped, the broth had a balance of onions and soup. My favorite part of this is always the cheese topping and the bar is set by the degree of browning. This hit the spot. 2. Escargot a la Hy's (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=0&select=-x3xC7fdUWnk_uHAstgWow) - Signature escargot butter, Housemade herb bread. Our local friends never tried western style snails before. They enjoyed this and we dipped the provided bread to soak up the pesto like butter sauce after eating them. I was okay with this as it didn't wow me. 3. Steak Delmonico, medium rare (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=0&select=35YqYkVDf5ZhYp5EmGFw_A) - 16, oz. This is a ribeye cut that was cooked at the right temperature (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=0&select=rlgWxrYnA4bkptcOTQrvxA) and was still warm when I dug in. Our waiter sliced table side this after presenting it first. Tender and juicy, I used the provided steak sauce for a flavor change occasionally. 4. Porterhouse steak for two, medium rare (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=0&select=_9hs4ELl8vFbcNqN7-c1tg) - 32 oz. This was cooked also the right temperature (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=0&select=yjAWG92ezwCA0NmvEcUz_w). The tenderloin portion was as described, fork tender. The NY steak portion was hearty yet not tough. 5. Baked potato, loaded with no butter (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=0&select=Zq6dwU1fZLkVh-GzqM7haA) - Cooked perfectly, after enjoying the loaded portion, I even finished my favorite part, the skin of my spud. 6. French fries, shared (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=0&select=JIfr9qG2WbxIP0J26zpciw) - What's not to like about hot fries?! I stole a few pieces, dipping them in the provided ketchup. 7. Bananas foster, shared (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=0&select=2rV3WF4G1iyRrA78A8ifpQ) - Bananas, orange, cinnamon, Creme de Banane, orange Curacao, dark rum. What a show! A signature dessert, we couldn't help but order this. As advertised, we learned why it is a signature. It was so good that I was tempted to order the day's special dessert, Cherries Jubilee but everyone was full. As we entered, one of the staff pointed out where the grill master cooked our steaks. Being curious after our meal and using the restroom, I made my way to the room and took a few photos. He gave me a shaka as I stood there, watched, and took photos. Big thanks to our waiter Kuni for his cheerful and professionalism in guiding us through our meal. As mentioned, he also created our dessert. Big thanks to Jeremy for tending to our needs, filling our water glasses and removing plates and used utensils. All the servers throughout the three dining rooms greeted me with smiles whenever I walked by. Looking for an old school feel and a wonderful dining experience? Look no further.

Hy's Steak House offers an elegant ambiance with an elevated dining experience. They do have a strict dress code, so keep that in mind. My husband and I used to frequent Hy's often for their delicious Happy Hour menu, the bar is a perfect spot to unwind in style. We prefer the bar, but have enjoyed the dining room as well! Hy's recently brought back their Happy Hour after suspending it for several years. My husband and I were thrilled to hear about the comeback, as the french dip was one of our favorites on the Happy Hour menu. Unfortunately, the price doubled and the quality was cut in half for this specific meal. I would be willing to pay the doubled price for the previous sandwich. I would also like to add that the manager was very pleasant! Below I added a picture of the new and previous French dip, in hopes of Hy's bringing it back!

My wife and I ate here while in Honolulu and it was an incredible experience. We've been to the Hy's in Whistler, BC which was great, but this location set the bar even Hy-er! (see what I did there? :-D) Our server (who's name escapes me, to my chagrin) had been with Hy's for over 20 year and he was incredible. Knew the menu and all of the drinks like the back of his hand and was able to help us pick an amazing meal. My wife had a rib-eye (if I recall correctly) that she loved. It was perfectly cooked and delicious. We sat next to the booth that has the chef grilling each steak individually and watched him cook it! Very cool. I had the Beef Wellington and I wish I hadn't. Because now I can't eat any other Wellington! This one was simply heaven! It was perfectly cooked, the pastry was flaky and amazing and it was probably one of the top 3 dishes I've ever had. Period. I can't say enough about it - it was that good. I had a very cool smoked old fashioned to start and our server helped us pick an excellent bottle of wine to go with the meal. We wrapped up with him making us a table-side cherries jubilee. Seriously - he made it himself and it was to die for. Perfect balance of flavors, delicious and now I want more of it! Next time we're in Honolulu, you know where we'll be for dinner!

11.30.2024 We recently celebrated our wedding anniversary and my parent's wedding anniversary at Hy's Steak House, and it was an evening to remember. From the moment we arrived, the elegant ambiance and classic decor set the stage for a special night. The tuxedoed waiters added a touch of sophistication, making us feel truly pampered! My husband ordered prime rib, my dad ordered surf & turf and me and my mom ordered fillet mignon. Everyone was so perfect and tasty. The sides were equally impressive, with choice of baked potato/mashed potato/french fries and mixed vegetables that complemented our main courses beautifully. To top off the evening, we indulged in a flambé dessert prepared right at our table. It was not only delicious but also a delightful spectacle that added to the celebratory atmosphere. The service was impeccable throughout the night. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and made sure every detail was perfect. The live music added a romantic touch, making the evening even more special. Overall, Hy's Steak House exceeded our expectations and made our anniversary dinner truly unforgettable.

Hy's Steak House's atmosphere was very intimate, formal, and antique. We had several servers, and everyone was friendly, attentive, and courteous. I think their names were Anakin, Johnathan, Juana (?), and Dayle. Johnathan explained the history of the restaurant and decor that was taken from some mansion. Anakin poured the beer well, with almost non existent head. I rsvp online. Two days prior to our dinner, Hy's called us to confirm the appointment and reminded us of their formal dress code (closed toe shoes and pants for men, nice dressy attire for women). Valet was complementary with optional tipping (be sure to bring some cash for tips) . We had a complimentary cheese bread. We ordered a prime rib, a beef wellington, truffle fries, Passion Colada Crème Brûlée (there was a candle b/c it was my husband's bday), and a beer. Our bill came out to be ~$215 before tip. The beef Wellington was moist, tender, and delicious. It was the best I ever had. The creme brûlée's haupia was creamy. I could taste a lot of coconut. Towards the end of dinner, we had a complimentary photo taken at our table to take home. Overall, everyone from valet, front desk, and etc. seemed genuine. It was a warm, friendly, yet formal atmosphere. We had a positive experience!

Celebrating my wife's birthday along with a belated brother in law b-day. Always my go to restaurant nice relaxing atmosphere semi fine dining . It's been at least over 1 year that I have not dine here . Since Hy's was going through some renovation they had a pop up at the Ritz Carlton hotel I was waiting for them to return to their original location. Finally I seen on social media that they're back . So I immediately made dinner reservations also looking forward to what they have done . Not much I talked with our waiter they did major renovations in the kitchen and piping and air conditioning. So the original look and decor is the same . Also to my disappointment I heard they have a new Executive chef so their menu has changed extensively. For example no scallops, no king crabs legs and fish or chicken dishes . Although our waiter said you can pre- order crab legs ahead of time and they will have it ready for you . Prices have gone up a little like anyplace else that's understandable. Service was a little slow than normal but it was very busy I looked around and almost every table was full . Our cocktail was very slow I probably got sober before my next beer arrived lol . Overall it's still one of my favs support local enjoys the pics

Hy's Steak House is one of those famous local staples I've heard about for many years but never had the opportunity to visit until recently. I see many reviews for Hy's date from years ago; they were closed for a while and opened in the summer of 2024 having remodeled their kitchen and other behind-the-scenes things. Our friends that invited us for a special meal were delighted that nothing on the ambiance side had changed. If you're curious about the photos, it's because we went on Halloween night and all the staff was dressed up! Spooky tunes were also playing, both over the speakers and by the live musician near our table for the night. They do have a dress code unlike much of Waikiki, so be prepared for that. They take reservations, and it did fill up while we were there. It's fine dining; you will be paying a lot but getting amazing food and service making it worthwhile. We had a nice sized group of about 10 that evening, so we had the seafood tower and spinach salad service as an appetizer to share. You must get a salad service both for the entertainment and a delicious dish. We also had drinks all around from wine and beer (not really a great beer selection), to cocktails and liquor. One even had a Halloween special green eyeball. Their steak choices range from $90 to $200; some are fixed plates paired with starches and vegetables, others you choose, and some you have to add. All the produce was fresh and colorful; potatoes so creamy. Cuts of steak were just delectable, I had the filet medium rare, and savored every bite. It's truly a great service If you enjoy fine dining and steak, this is a must visit for a special occasion on a trip to Oahu.
